The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organising committee chief Toshiro Muto said the delay in holding the event will increase its costs, speaking at a news conference in Tokyo on Tuesday. «The total tournament expenses will be 1,64 trillion yen (12.98 billion euros). The organising committee will continue to work in cooperation with related organisations such as the IOC to curb and reduce tournament expenses, and steadily implement counter-measures against the novel coronavirus, making it safe and secure,» said Muto while detailing version 5 of the games’ budget. The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics were already on track to become the most expensive games on record before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the event by a year. Mandatory credit: Tokyo 2020.
